Is it illegal to convert a garage or build an ADU in Los Angeles?

No, in California it is legal to do a garage conversion or build an ADU. Though you will have to follow certain zoning laws, permits and licensing. In addtion each city can decide the way they want to handle the construction of such projects and how big of conversion or ADU you can have on your property in Los Angeles. Please note that if you have a duplex or multifamily home you may not be able to do these projects.

For passing inspections for house remodeling, you can contact our trusted partners Los Angeles Home Remodeler.com. Before you pass inspection for anything you will need architectural designs, our sister company also provides does here Architectural Designs.com.

What if my home does not qualify?

Even if your Los Angeles home does not quaily or pass the permits for a garage converison or ADU you do have options that will allow you to add space to your home, you would even be able to rent them if you are looking to make extra income.  The first option that you have is to convert or build a masterbedroom. A master bedroom can also have a half bath. Even just adding the extra space of a master you can add up to $100,000 in home property valu.  Your second option is to build a rec room like adding an extra bedroom you are allowed to add extra living space to your home and even add a small restroom.  This extra living room will give you space and flexiblity your family needs.
