Flooring Options for ADUs/Garage Conversions In Los Angeles

You've decided to convert your Los Angeles home garage into a new living space and need to make a decision about the type of flooring. You might be surprised to learn just how many options are offered for garage floors.

This article will list your options and give you advice on what can best fit your new Los Angeles home garage floor.

  • Acid-Stained Concrete: A great choice for a garage serving a dual purpose due to being stain resistant. The downside, it's still hard, cold concrete. This is often seen in-game room/garage combos.

  • Epoxy Floors: Is your garage going to be a workshop? If so, you should consider this type of flooring, it is very durable and easy to clean. The bonus you can add your own design before covering the floor in the epoxy.

  • Floor Tiles: Tiles are always a great choice. They come in all colors and sizes, meaning you can create your own pattern! The surfaces also have styles as well. They are super easy to install, the pieces just interlock together.

  • Carpeting: Yes carpet is soft and warm and comfy but with a garage conversion you have to worry about it getting wet. If your conversion included the replacement of the garage door, then the carpet would be safe. You should look into indoor/outdoor carpet if it is what you want.

  • Vinyl: This material has held up through generations and it's easy to see why. It's extremely affordable, easy to clean and can handle moisture. There are hundreds of colors and designs.  Works great in any type of garage conversion. And it's easy to remove!

  • Wood Flooring: With wood flooring, you have two options; engineered and solid. Engineered is better where you deal with a lot of humidity changes, so no swelling. And it can be floated over an existing floor so easy install and removal. The wood always looks great and adds a touch to any conversion. And it goes great no matter your needs, win-win!

  • Ceramic Tile: This timeless classic has proven you can add it to any room.  The tiles range in shape, color and size meaning you can really customize your new floor. The material handles water and chemicals and foot traffic. It's not recommended if you plan on still putting a car in the garage as the weight will break the tiles.

  • Natural Stone: Natural stone is a high-end flooring that is both beautiful and durable, but not for parking a car on. Adds a touch of class to any room.
